The Many Types of Notary Clients (And the Signatures That Keep Us Laughing)

In the world of notary work, no two appointments are ever the same. One minute you’re notarizing a power of attorney for a calm, collected client who came prepared with a folder, tabs, and two forms of ID… and the next minute you’re explaining that, yes, “your cousin on FaceTime” cannot be used as a credible witness.

Here are the most common client types every notary meets—and why we love them all.

1. The Ultra-Prepared Professional

This client walks in with:

✔️ A neatly organized binder

✔️ A backup pen (blue AND black)

✔️ IDs placed on the table like they’re checking into TSA PreCheck

They know what they need, where to sign, and they probably already Googled the statute just to make sure.

We salute them. They keep our blood pressure low.

2. The “I Just Found Out I Need a Notary Today” Sprinter

They look panicked, they’re talking fast, and they may still be in their work apron or gym clothes. You: “Do you have your ID?”Them: pats pockets “I THINK SO!”

These clients keep us booked and busy—and remind us that mobile notaries may as well carry superhero capes.

3. The Over-Explainer

Their life story? You’ll know it. Their cousin’s life story? You’ll hear that too. Their ex-boss from 2009? Somehow related to this document.

You try to keep the process simple, but bless their heart—they just want to make sure you understand why they need this notarized. And honestly… we appreciate the entertainment.

4. The Signature Artist

Their signature has loops, curves, swirls, flourishes, and possibly smoke trails.

They sign like they’re auditioning for “America’s Next Top Calligrapher.”Meanwhile, the notary journal line is only two inches wide.

We admire the creativity—just maybe not the spacing.

5. The “Can You Explain This Legal Document?” Client

You smile professionally. You breathe deeply. You summon your inner zen.

Then you give the same gentle speech every notary knows by heart:“I am not an attorney. I cannot give legal advice.”(Repeat as needed.)

6. The Family Reunion Appointment

They arrive with:

  • Three cousins

  • An aunt

  • A baby

  • Two emotional support snacks

  • And someone yelling, “Where do I sign?” before even sitting down

It’s a whole production, but we get it done—because The Signature Squad is patient, prepared, and unbothered.

7. The Online Notary Surprise Guest

During RON sessions, you never know what you’ll see in the background: A barking dog. A toddler climbing the couch. Somebody cooking dinner. A cousin walking through in a towel.

But the client is cheerful, grateful, and amazed that online notarization even exists. And we love that energy.

8. The “I Just Need One More Thing” Client

You notarize their document, pack up, and they say:“Actually… while you’re here…”

And suddenly it’s three documents, a permission slip, and a last-minute affidavit. Hey—we’re here to help. Just tell us how many signatures before we close the folder!

9. The Loyal Regular

Ahhh, the favorite. They know the process, trust your work, and call you before they call Google. They tell their friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. They’re basically your unofficial marketing department.

We adore them.

In the End… We Appreciate Every Client

Whether they arrive with color-coded tabs or total chaos, one thing is true: every client is unique, every signature has a story, and every appointment keeps the notary world interesting.
